Car crashes have the potential to cause significant harm to victims. Depending on who is involved, those injuries could be anything from broken bones to brain injuries or spinal cord injuries. Unfortunately, pedestrians are at the greatest risk if they’re involved in a crash.
Take for example a situation that happened in New York City. At least seven people ended up with injuries after a van collided with them in an outdoor dining area. In the crash, at least five adults and two children suffered injuries.
Of those people, four had to be taken to the hospital. Fortunately, it’s believed that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
What caused the van to hit the pedestrians in the dining area?
It isn’t clear what caused the crash, but the driver of the van had hit another vehicle before colliding with a local bus stop, traffic pole and dining area. The Department of Buildings has to perform a structural integrity check of the building, and those who were injured were hospitalized.
As of now, the driver of the van has been taken into custody for questioning.
Be cautious, no matter where you are
Even if you’re in a seating area outside that has a small barrier between yourself and the road, always remember to stay alert. Drivers who make mistakes could go up onto the sidewalk and into the patio area, which could put your life at risk.
If you’re hit, any driver who causes a crash should be held accountable. You can fight to get fair compensation once your injuries are stabilized. Working with an experienced personal injury attorney is the best way to protect your interests and your family’s future.
